The ULTIMATE Fish Taco Sauce (made with kefir)

Many of my posts come from the daily happenings around our house.  Something happens, and I blog about it.  I make something yummy, and I take a photo.  This was one of those times.   We were making fish tacos the other night, and my sweetie asked if I could make a creamy fish taco sauce.  You know the kind that they have at restaurants that makes the taco EXTRA tasty.  This is what I came up with.

Homemade kefir is something that you will always find in our fridge.  I try to drink some every day. I make it from raw cow milk from a local farm.  It’s WAY better than the store-bought kind and has more beneficial probiotics in it.  I also is a lot cheaper to make it at home.  Read more HERE about making kefir at home.

I decided to use kefir to make the fish taco sauce since that is what I had in the fridge.  I also happened to have a bit of homemade mayonnaise.  A little lemon and some herbs and spices…. easy as that.  Add some ginger carrot sauerkraut to your fish taco and you are all set.  This spontaneous kitchen creation was a big hit.  I actually licked my plate clean to get the last of the sauce off of my plate.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup homemade plain kefir (or store-bought)
  • 2 TBS homemade mayonnaise (or store-bought)
  • 2 TBS fresh lemon juice
  • 2 TBS cilantro, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder (like this)
  • pinch of chipotle chili powder (like this)
  • pinch of sea salt (I use this one)

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl until well incorporated
  2. Serve and enjoy
  3. Store leftover sauce in fridge (for up to 3 days)
