The weather is getting cooler, and it’s time to switch gears in the kitchen. Time to say goodbye to the raw salads and cold smoothies of summer and hello to warming comfort foods of fall. Here’s 20 of my grain free favorite fall comfort foods to get you inspired.
Seasonal eating means more to me than just eating what is growing at that particular time. Seasonal eating means adjusting not only what I am eating but how I cook the foods according to the climate outside. In the winter, we naturally crave soups, warming stews, and other high fat and protein foods such as meat and fish. As the weather warms up in spring, we want salads, berries, and leafy greens. And in the summer, when the days are long and hot, we require cooling and high-energy foods such as fruits and vegetables, which are a naturally higher in carbohydrates.
The cooler, windy days of fall remind me to bring out the crock pot, to make more bone broth for soup, and to nourish my body with nutrient-dense comfort foods to prepare for the cold winter. It’s usually a welcomed change as I feel like I get into a creative rut with eating the same things day after day. Know what I mean?
