5 BEST ESSENTIAL OILS TO SUPPORT HEALTHY DIGESTION
Ginger is warm, spicy. and energizing. It is commonly used to soothe, comfort, and balance occasional digestive discomfort. Because of it’s mildly stimulating properties, it can be used to move sluggish digestion along. It can also be soothing for occasional bloating and gas.
Peppermint is cooling and stimulating. It is one of the oldest and most highly regarded herbs for supporting normal digestion. Just like with ginger, it supports normal digestion by moving things along. It can be very soothing for occasional indigestion and gas.
Cardamom is a member of the ginger family of botanical plants. It is warming and invigorating and has similar properties to ginger. It is wonderful for promoting healthy digestion. The scent reminds me of my grandmother’s freshly baked cardamom buns.
Fennel has a sweet, earthy, anise-like aroma that is energizing, vitalizing, and balancing. It is considered stimulating to the digestive system. It can be used to soothe occasional gas, bloating, and nausea.
DiGize is is a blend of Tarragon, Ginger, Peppermint, Juniper, Fennel, Anise, Patchouli, and Lemongrass. It is specifically formulated to support normal digestion and to soothe occasional digestive upset.
HOW TO USE ESSENTIAL OILS FOR HEALTHY DIGESTION
The best way to use these oils is either by diffusing them in your home (aromatherapy) or by applying them to your skin (topically.)
Diffusing essential oils into the air allows the essential oil molecules to enter your body through the olfactory nerve in the nose. You can also simply inhale the scent of the oil straight from the bottle.
Essential oils work by absorbing easily into your bloodstream through the skin. To support the digestive system and normal digestion, it is best to apply the oils in a clockwise direction the mimics the flow of normal digestion. This mean if you are looking down at your belly button, you would begin just below the belly button and gently massage the oils in an upward circular motion to the right. It is recommended to always dilute your essential oils with a carrier oil like olive oil, coconut oil , or avocado oil.
HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT ESSENTIAL OIL
Just like with anything we put into our bodies, you want to choose the purest and best quality essential oils. There is little regulation on how essential oils are extracted and produced. I highly recommend searching out 100% pure, organic essential oils. You can see my essential oil of choice HERE.
And remember that we are all individuals. It may take some experimentation to find the right essential oils for your specific body. Please be sure to research all supplements and essential oils before applying if you are pregnat, nursin, or have a specific health condition.
