Green smoothies are awesome. Loaded with vitamins and minerals, they give you just what you need to to start your day, to nourish you after a work out, or to get you over the afternoon hump. There are endless combinations of fruits and greens that you can throw together in just minutes. A regular blender works just fine. But I have to say that when I got my vitamix, making smoothies became much more fun. What I like best about high-powered blenders is the velvety-smooth consistency of the smoothie.
Today’s smoothie is the Happy Belly Green Smoothie. If you have been reading my blog, you know that I am a big fan of nourishing the gut. About 80% of our immune system is located in our small intestine. That’s a lot. So I like to eat as much fermented foods as possible EVERY day to make sure my gut stays happy and healthy. I added homemade yogurt to this morning’s smoothie for a happy belly. It adds a bit of the necessary fat needed to assimilate some of the nutrients in the smoothie. It’s a refreshing blend of apple, banana, yogurt, spinach, and date…… enjoy!!!!
